Students and Faculty Transform Juvenile Center with Color and Creativity

As part of a protocol signed between Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and the Kavak Juvenile and Youth Closed Penal Institution, the “Interior Color Relief Applications and Design” project has been successfully completed. Within the scope of the project, art pieces were created by the academic staff and students of the OMU Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, to be displayed within the institution’s interior spaces.

More Aesthetic and Peaceful Spaces

The project aimed to aesthetically enhance the areas where juveniles in conflict with the law meet with their families, as well as the staff dining hall, and to create a more peaceful atmosphere. The artworks were designed not only to enrich these spaces visually but also to positively influence their psychological effect.

Project Presentation Ceremony

The presentation ceremony of the project was attended by Dean of the OMU Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. Ali Seylan, Head of the Painting Department Prof. Dr. Metin Eker, Kavak Public Prosecutor Ebru Yaman, Kavak Criminal Court of First Instance Judge Osman Nuri Kendirci, Gendarmerie Company Commander of the Prison Lt. Zeki Yavuz Uzun, Director of the Penal Institution Selma Tekin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Engin Güney of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and students of the Painting Department.

“We Are Drawing on the Healing Power of Art”

In her opening speech, Institution Director Selma Tekin thanked all contributors to the project and emphasized their belief in the healing and unifying power of art.

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. Ali Seylan expressed their pleasure in being part of such a meaningful social responsibility project and stated that the faculty will continue to play an active role in projects that contribute to society.

Certificates of Appreciation Presented to Contributors

At the end of the ceremony, institution officials presented certificates of appreciation and gifts to the academic staff and students from the Painting Department who took part in the project. Additionally, Public Prosecutor Ebru Yaman presented a special commemorative gift to Prof. Dr. Ali Seylan.
