Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) is launching a new educational program designed to introduce children to science and the arts at an early age.
Organized in collaboration with the OMU Continuing Education Center (OMÜSEM) and the OMU Children's Education Application and Research Center (OMÜÇEM), the program called "Children's University" offers engaging and educational content tailored for primary and middle school students.
Aimed at sharing OMU’s academic expertise with children, the program features a series of interactive workshops led by specialist faculty members.
The first phase of the program includes the following workshops:
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esen Ersoy – Game-Based Mathematics Teaching Workshop
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selma Karaahmet Balcı – Art Workshop
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elif Omca Çobanoğlu & Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melda Genç – Nature Awareness Through Biomimicry Workshop
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek Başerer – Philosophy for Children Workshop
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sibel Demir Kaçan – Creative Drama Workshop
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Polat Şendurur – Introduction to Robotics and Coding
• Dr. Beril Tekeli Yiğit – Children’s Choir Practice
The workshops will begin on Saturday, April 12, at OMU Foundation College, offering children a unique opportunity to have fun while acquiring new scientific and artistic skills.
Speaking about the program, OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın emphasized the university’s commitment to community engagement:
"Through the Children's University program, we aim to reflect our academic knowledge to society and encourage children's active participation in science, art, and intellectual exploration. We are opening our university's doors to our young learners."
Applications for the Children's University workshops are open on the OMÜSEM and OMÜÇEM websites, with the deadline set for April 7, 2025.
