Muhittin Eraslan, a 36-year-old truck driver, regained his health after undergoing treatment at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center. Eraslan, who was severely injured in a traffic accident seven months ago in Elazığ, suffered extensive damage to his left arm, nearly leading to amputation, along with eight fractures in his spine, ribs, and leg.

After receiving initial treatment in Elazığ, an anesthesia technician friend advised him to seek further care in Malatya, where doctors saved his arm from amputation. Unable to walk after the accident, Eraslan arrived at OMU Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, where he underwent three months of treatment and was ultimately discharged in full recovery.

Personalized Treatment for Patients

The head physician of the rehabilitation center, Prof. Dr. İlker İlhanlı, explained that the facility provides physical therapy combined with thermal therapy for conditions such as herniated discs and osteoarthritis, in addition to rehabilitation programs for neurological and orthopedic disorders.

"Our Patient’s Arm Has Fully Recovered"

Highlighting the severity of Eraslan’s injuries, Prof. Dr. İlhanlı stated:

"Our patient suffered severe trauma to the left side of his body, with his arm nearly completely crushed. We applied a personalized rehabilitation program, and as a result, we can now say that his arm has fully recovered. He also had spinal and rib fractures and had previously undergone leg surgery. When he first arrived, he was in a wheelchair, but now he is walking independently."

"We Adapt Treatment Based on the Patient’s Progress"

Dr. İlhanlı emphasized the dynamic nature of rehabilitation, explaining that treatment protocols are adjusted as patients recover.

"Initially, we implement a standard rehabilitation program, but as the healing process progresses, we adapt the treatment plan based on the patient’s condition. This includes modifications to exercises, movement therapy, and assistive devices."

"Providing Psychological Support in the Initial Stages"

Furkan Kayalar, a physiotherapist at the center, noted that Eraslan was initially in a wheelchair and experiencing psychological distress when he arrived.

"At the start, we provided psychological support to help him through the recovery process. With his determination to heal, we developed a three-month rehabilitation plan. The most rewarding moment was seeing him walk out of the center on his own, carrying his belongings, and driving his own car after completing treatment."

"I Have Regained My Former Health"

Eraslan shared his challenging journey from the accident to recovery:

"My truck lost control, leading to the accident. My arm and leg were nearly severed, and I suffered multiple fractures in my spine, ribs, and shoulder, along with lung damage.

After being advised to seek rehabilitation, I learned about OMU Havza Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center and decided to come here.

I received three months of physical therapy, and thanks to the dedicated team, I have regained my former health. When I arrived, I couldn’t walk—but when I left, I walked out on my own and drove my car home."
