Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Fine Arts Faculty celebrated the graduation of 82 successful students in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Before the graduation ceremony, an exhibition featuring the qualified works of graduating students was opened at the Fine Arts Faculty Art Gallery.

The exhibition included works from the Industrial Design, Graphic, Visual Communication Design, Painting, and Ceramic and Glass departments.

The ceremony, held at the Faculty of Fine Arts, was attended by Prof. Dr. Ali Seylan, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts; the vice deans; faculty members; and the graduates' families. The event began with a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem.

“Remember That You Are Always a Part of the OMU Fine Arts Faculty Family”

Dean Prof. Dr. Ali Seylan addressed the graduates, “Our faculty, which adopts universal and ethical values, is sensitive to the problems of the world and our country, encourages students to realize their potential, continuously improve themselves, and produce solutions based on science and art, is graduating its 7th cohort this year. To keep your connection with the university strong, be sure to register with our alumni information system. You have seen previous graduates share their experiences and enthusiasm with you through seminars and workshops. Always remember that you are a part of the OMU Fine Arts Faculty family.”

“We Will Follow Your Professional Successes with Enthusiasm”

Continuing his speech, Dean Seylan said, “Being an artist or designer is something beyond acquired knowledge, skills, and equipment. It requires developing an attitude that sees the responsibility of finding solutions to the problems of the world and our country and extends learning efforts throughout life. I believe you will be committed to this effort. As representatives of our faculty, we will follow your professional successes with great interest.”

“Our Professors Taught Us to Love and Respect Art”

Fine Arts Faculty valedictorian Melis Höner said, “Today, we are here to celebrate our graduation with great excitement and pride. First of all, I would like to respectfully and gratefully remember Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gifted us the modern Republic of Türkiye and inspired us with his appreciation for art and artists. His words, ‘A nation deprived of art has lost one of its life veins,’ remind us once again of the importance of art. We thank our professors endlessly for their guidance on this path. They provided us with technical knowledge and skills and taught us to love and respect art.”

Following the speeches, the protocol members presented awards and certificates of achievement to the top students. At the end of the ceremony, Fine Arts Faculty students threw their caps in the air, enjoying this special day to the fullest.
