As part of the “İŞKUR Youth Program,” launched last year to support university students’ adaptation to the labor market and increase their employability, 26 best practices in various fields were evaluated and announced.
According to the list published by the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR), Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU)—which employed around 1,600 students last year under the program—was recognized for two activity areas where student participants gained professional skills and improved their work habits.
The first recognized activity area was “International Student Integration Activities,” where OMU students worked in communication and cooperation processes with international students and guests. This practice was commended for enhancing students’ communication and intercultural interaction skills.
The second model practice was carried out within the Faculty of Engineering under the activity category of “Supporting Technology Assistance Services.” Students involved in the maintenance and repair of computers improved their technical knowledge and problem-solving skills—an initiative acknowledged as an exemplary application.
OMU Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar emphasized the program’s contribution to students’ professional development, stating:
“The İŞKUR Youth Program helps our students become well-prepared not only academically but also for professional life. As a university, we aim to instill both work discipline and a strong sense of responsibility in our students. Thanks to the efforts of our students and the support of academic advisors, we have achieved notable success in this process.”
Students who participated in the program also shared that they gained valuable experience both professionally and personally.
Applications for the 2025–2026 Academic Year İŞKUR Youth Program will open soon. Detailed information will be available on the Ondokuz Mayıs University website.
The İŞKUR Youth Program is an active labor market program aimed at facilitating university students' integration into the labor market and increasing their employability. Organized by the Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) in collaboration with public universities, the program aims to equip students with knowledge, skills, work habits, and discipline.
Implemented based on the Public Financial Management and Control Law No. 5018, published in the Official Gazette dated December 10, 2003 (No. 25326), the program allows students to work up to three days a week under short-term insurance coverage, earning a daily wage in return.
