Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Continuing Education Center has successfully completed the “Know Yourself First, Then Your Profession: Medicine” program, organized for 11th-grade students of Aziz Atik Science High School. Designed to help students gain insight into both themselves and the medical profession, the program was carried out in two phases.
In the first phase, students underwent a comprehensive evaluation of their personality traits and vocational inclinations through various assessment tools conducted by Prof. Dr. Ayşenur Büyükgöze Kavas, Director of the OMU Career Center and faculty member of the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling at the Faculty of Education. Individual reports were prepared for each student, aiming to enhance their self-awareness.
In the second phase, students had the opportunity to engage with the OMU Faculty of Medicine faculty members. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Özlem Mıdık, the “Experience Sharing” panel featured Dean Prof. Dr. Murat Danacı, Vice Dean Assoc. Dr. Fatih Temoçin, Prof. Dr. Ömer Böke, Assoc. Dr. Dilek Demirel, Assoc. Dr. Kağan Karabulut, Dr. Lecturer Engin Çiftçioğlu, intern doctor Süleyman Taha, and Emergency Medicine Specialist Utku Türker. Students were able to pose questions and gain valuable insights into the medical profession.
Following the panel, the “Shadow Days” activity allowed each participant to be paired with both a preclinical and a clinical student from the Faculty of Medicine. Over the course of two days, students observed the daily academic and practical routines of medical students, gaining real-world exposure to medical education and professional life.
The four-day program “Know Yourself First, Then Your Profession: Medicine” concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to all attendees. Beyond introducing the medical profession, the initiative gave students essential insights into self-discovery and career planning.
