OMU Advances as Research Hub with Record TÜBİTAK Project Approvals

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has achieved significant success in the TÜBİTAK 2209-A and 2209-B student research project support programs, coordinated by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye’s (TÜBİTAK) Directorate of Science Fellowships and Grant Programmes (BİDEB). In the 2024/1 period, a total of 244 student projects from OMU were approved for funding.

238 Projects Supported under TÜBİTAK 2209-A Program

According to data provided by OMU's Office for Support of Student-Involved Research, out of 471 applications submitted for the "2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program," 238 projects received funding.

The funded projects span a diverse range of faculties and schools, with the highest number of supported projects coming from the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Education, each contributing 37 projects. These faculties were followed by the Faculty of Science (26 projects) and the Faculty of Engineering (24 projects).

Strong Performance in TÜBİTAK 2209-B Industrial Research Projects

OMU also demonstrated noteworthy success in the TÜBİTAK "2209-B University Students Industry-Oriented Research Projects Support Program," which encourages industrial collaboration. Out of 13 submissions, OMU secured funding for 6 projects. Of these projects, 5 were prepared by students from the Faculty of Engineering, and 1 was from the Faculty of Science. These results underline OMU’s emphasis on industry collaboration and its commitment to practical, industry-oriented student research.

A Significant Step Towards Becoming a Research University

OMU, having achieved support for 59 more projects compared to the previous year, continues to make steadfast progress toward its goal of becoming a "Research University." The university’s commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial and innovative research ecosystem has significantly enhanced its scientific productivity, earning widespread recognition within academic circles and among students.

Programs Encouraging Students Towards Scientific Research

The TÜBİTAK BİDEB 2209-A and 2209-B programs are designed to motivate undergraduate and associate degree students toward research activities, promote scientific thinking, and encourage projects that involve collaboration with industry. OMU’s outstanding results in these programs substantially contribute to the academic and career development of its students.
