42 Retired Faculty Members Gather at OMU for "Teachers' Day"

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Education's Music Education Community students organized a “Nostalgia Concert” to celebrate November 24, Teachers' Day.

The program commenced with the "Art Educators' Group Exhibition," featuring works by faculty members of the Art Education Department and students from the Visual Arts Community.

The event, held at the Faculty of Education, was attended by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Alper Kesten, General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar, Samsun Provincial Director of National Education Dr. Murat Ağar, Samsun Forestry Nursery Director Alpaslan Kadı, 42 retired faculty members, academics, and students.

The celebration continued with a Teachers’ Day Program organized by Research Assistant Dr. Derya Yücel Çetin and prepared by Turkish Language Teaching Department students.

"Happy to Be Here"

In his opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Hamza Çalışıcı, shared the historical significance of Teachers’ Day and expressed his satisfaction with celebrating this day alongside retired faculty members for the third consecutive year.

Retired lecturer Gülay Tütüncü delivered an emotional speech, expressing her pride in having worked at Ondokuz Mayıs University:

"I am deeply happy to be here today. Reuniting with former colleagues and students has been incredibly moving for me."

As part of the program, Lecturer Murat Ağçiçek, curator of the Faculty of Education’s Fine Arts Painting Exhibition, stated that the event showcased artworks by retired faculty members and local teachers who are also painters. He shared his thoughts on the exhibition:

"This exhibition features the works of our retired faculty members and teachers working in Samsun. It has been a wonderful opportunity to refresh memories and bring art together under one roof."

The event concluded with tokens of appreciation presented to contributors and flowers gifted to retired faculty members by Samsun Forestry Nursery Director Alpaslan Kadı on behalf of the institution.
