As part of the 11 November National Afforestation Day events held in Samsun, a total of 37,380 saplings were planted across 19 different locations. OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın participated in the planting program carried out in the afforestation area next to the T-Type Closed Prison in the İlkadım district.
The event, organized under the auspices of the Presidency within the framework of the “Breath for the Future – Green Homeland” campaign, brought together Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı, Garrison Commander Retired Major General Davut Alâ, Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Nihat Soğuk, OMU Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Mustafa Bakçepınar, Provincial Police Chief Ahmet Arıbaş, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çetin, deputy governors, institution representatives, students, and many citizens.
Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın joined students and volunteers in the sapling-planting activity, showing her support for environmental protection.
In her remarks, Rector Aydın emphasized the importance of protecting nature:
“Protecting nature is one of the most valuable legacies we can leave to future generations. As a university, we attach great importance to raising students who are environmentally conscious and who take responsibility for a sustainable world. Each sapling we plant today will be both a symbol of hope and a breath for the future.”
As part of the event, participants were also informed about the Ministry of Justice Afforestation Automation System, which enables real-time monitoring of sapling planting activities and survival rates.
It was reported that, together with activities held across Samsun, a total of 37,380 saplings were planted. The program concluded with participants planting saplings together and taking a commemorative photo.
