Samsun strengthens its sports city identity by hosting a huge organization. FISU (International University Sports Federation) World Cup Combat Sports matches started today, hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU).
A total of 769 athletes, 265 women and 504 men, from 430 universities in 50 countries and 215 technical teams participate in the branches of "Boxing", "Karate", "Wushu", "Muay Thai", "Sambo" and "Wrestling" of the FISU World Universities Combat Sports Cup, organized under the coordination of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TÜSF), Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), Samsun Metropolitan Municipality and Samsun Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports.
The World Universities Combat Sports Cup, covering ten days between September 21 and September 30, 2022, started today with "Sambo" at Mustafa Dagestanli Sports Hall and "Wushu" at OMÜ Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sports Sciences Sports Hall.
Awarded yet another international organization after the 23rd Deaf Summer Olympics Games (Samsun Deaflympics) in 2017, Samsun is hosting the World Universities Fighting Sports Cup, which is also the first organization of FISU at the "World Cup" level after the Covid-19 outbreak.
The opening ceremony of the FISU World Universities Combat Cup will be held on Friday, September 23 at 19:00 at OMU Atatürk Congress and Culture Center (AKM).
