The Faculty Fencing Team of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) secured third place at the Ünilig Fencing Türkiye Championship, held between 5–7 May 2025 and hosted by Middle East Technical University (METU). With this success, the team achieved OMU’s first-ever national team ranking in fencing.
The athletes representing OMU—Arman Arın, Tunahan Çelebi, Hamza Yiğit Üsen, and Mehmet Erdem Durul—drew attention with their strong performances throughout the tournament. Lecturer Meryem Gezer Sevinç accompanied the team.
In a written statement, OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın congratulated the students on their accomplishment:
“I extend my sincere congratulations to our students for this meaningful achievement. As a university that believes in the unifying power of sports, this historic success is a source of great pride for us.”
The championship was organized as part of inter-university sports competitions and hosted numerous teams from across Türkiye.
