Approximately 60 visitors who came to Kızılırmak Delta for the 2020 World Migratory Bird Day Event jointly organized by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Ornithology Research Centre and Samsun Kızılırmak Delta Protection and Development Association (SAMKUŞ) were informed about bird migration and the importance of breeding-wintering grounds and habitat of birds.
This year’s theme was “Birds Unite Our World”, and various events were organized throughout the world on October 10, 2020 to draw attention to bird migration which happens twice in a year. The importance of protecting and restoring the ecological links and integrity of ecosystems which are required for the survival and well-being of birds was emphasized in these events. The dangers and threats that migratory birds encounter and the need for the whole world to proceed by common action were also emphasized.
Visitors who were informed about the World Migratory Bird Day and the Kızılırmak Delta by the Academic member of the Ornithology Research Centre Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiraz Erciyas and graduate student Melisa Bal could also participate in birdwatching activities.
