Ondokuz Mayıs University’s (OMU) Search and Rescue Team, established on a voluntary basis, successfully completed Urban Search and Rescue training and applied to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) for accreditation. The team also passed the accreditation examinations, officially earning accreditation status.
During the Certificate and Insignia Presentation Ceremony organized by AFAD in Ankara on December 5, World Volunteers Day, the "Urban Search and Rescue Accreditation Certificate" was presented to Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz and the search and rescue team. The event was attended by the Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya.
In his speech at the ceremony, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated, “On this significant occasion, I extend my gratitude to all the institutions that exhibit sacrifice and tirelessly work during challenging times, and I also wish everyone a happy World Volunteers Day. Volunteering is a sacred value shaped by morality and a profound act that renders human existence meaningful. It is an action that highlights the essence of humanity at its highest level. This spirit is one of the most ancient values of our civilization. Today, we are together with the volunteers who uphold the conscience of our nation. You are the bridge that opens paths from heart to heart, from soul to soul. Thank you for your existence.”
