Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences bid farewell to 487 graduates for the 2023-2024 academic year. The graduation ceremony, held at OMU's Life Center, was attended by the Vice Deans of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Saraç and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Okay Pekşen, faculty members, and the graduates' families.

The ceremony, marking the professional entry of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences graduates, began with a moment of silence and the singing of the Turkish National Anthem.

"You will elevate Ondokuz Mayıs University and honor us"

In his opening speech, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Saraç, said, "We are delighted to be holding the 29th graduation ceremony of our faculty today. You have successfully completed a challenging phase of your educational journey. Looking back, you will see that you have undergone a rigorous education. Today, each of you is a future star, responsible not only to yourselves and your families but also to your country and the world. With the contemporary knowledge we have imparted to you, we believe you will quickly climb the career ladder and achieve significant success. As you succeed, you will elevate Ondokuz Mayıs University and honor us."

"Learning is a lifelong process"

Berre Kaçar, a graduate of the Psychology Department, took the stage to address her peers, saying, "Today we conclude the path we started four years ago with our graduation. I do not say our student life is over because we must remember that learning is a lifelong process. Therefore, we must continue our professional lives with a dynamic learning process. Today, we are melancholic; we are saying goodbye to four years, but I would like to remind you of Cahit Zarifoğlu's words: 'Melancholy is an envelope that brings us happiness.' Diplomas are only for gaining a profession. Gaining professional awareness and a sense of belonging to the profession imposes responsibilities. I extend my endless gratitude to all my professors who instilled this awareness in us, emphasized the importance of our profession, and guided us to become evolving individuals."

Following the speeches, the protocol members presented the graduates with their gifts.

At the end of the graduation ceremony, the students celebrated their achievement by tossing their caps into the air.
