Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Health, Culture, and Sports Directorate organized the '37th Intra-University Sports Competitions Trophy Ceremony.'
The trophy ceremony, held at the Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sport Sciences Football Field, was attended by OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal, Dean of Yaşar Doğu Faculty of Sport Sciences Prof. Dr. Murat Eliöz, academicians, administrative staff, and many students.
The annual sports competitions, organized to help students and staff maintain their physical and mental health and make the most of their free time, featured three sports categories this year: volleyball, basketball, and football.
In the competitions, seven women's and five men's teams participated in volleyball, ten men's teams in basketball, and 15 student and 13 staff teams in football, totaling 50 teams.
At the program, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal congratulated all the teams and supporting staff, saying, "There are no losers in such events. What matters is the willingness to participate and compete honorably. It is important to remember that this is a sport during the competition. Therefore, we need to cultivate this culture. Competitions add color to our lives and teach us to compete within the rules. OMU has been a university that values sports and activities since its establishment, which is why we were chosen as a sports-friendly campus. We want sports to be an indispensable part of our lives. Although there may be tensions during the competition, it is essential to embrace each other after the games."
Rector Ünal continued, emphasizing the happiness brought by togetherness and mutual support: "We should not forget that sports are just a tool behind our individual and social peace. We should act with the awareness that it needs to be a constant part of our lives. I especially thank our professors who have supported training and education significantly. The sports facilities at our university are primarily used by staff and students, but they are also available to the public. The OMU Olympic Swimming Pool will be operational soon. We also want our students to use the other sports facilities. We expect you to transform this into peer education and spread it. We should not forget the audience's support, which energizes and excites the city. We are ready to support any initiative or training you need. Completing your education and serving society will make us happy. You are a source of pride for us."
At the award ceremony, certificates of appreciation were presented to Nurad Özben Kırca for volleyball referees, Özhan Turan for basketball referees, and Ata Yiğit Aygün and Nadir Can Yılmaz for football referees.
The trophy ceremony concluded with the award presentation and a group photo session.
