Three projects developed by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) have been deemed worthy of support according to the Scientific Evaluation Results of the 2023 First Period 1001 Projects by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK ARDEB).

The first of the supported projects is from the Stem Cell Application and Research Center (KÖKMER), focusing on health: "Development of Centromeric Protein-A Specific Small Molecule Inhibitors and Investigation of Their Anticancer Potential."

OMU KÖKMER, already experienced in developing numerous TÜBİTAK and BAP-supported projects, thus adds another significant project to its portfolio.

Aim: Discovery of New Small Molecule Drugs for Cancer Treatment

In line with its mission, KÖKMER continues its academic and educational activities, focusing on discovering new small molecule drugs for cancer treatment in this national collaborative project.

Researchers from Yeditepe and Bahçeşehir Universities are also part of the team

The Project team, led by KÖKMER Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melek Yüce, includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Albayrak, Dr. Çağrı Gümüşkaptan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Kocabaş from Yeditepe University, and Dr. Assoc. Prof. Pınar Siyah from Bahçeşehir University.

Veterinary Faculty's Vaccine Development Project for Rainbow Trouts

Another TÜBİTAK-supported project is led by Prof. Dr. Ertan Emek Onuk of the Veterinary Faculty, titled "Vaccine Development Studies against Lactococcus Petauri in Rainbow Trouts (Oncorhynchus Mykiss)."

Agricultural Faculty Project Utilizes Waste from Turkish Salmon and Anchovies in Tomato Cultivation

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Harun Özer from the Faculty of Agriculture leads the project "Investigation of the Use of Protein Hydrolysates Derived from Turkish Salmon and Anchovy Wastes as Biostimulants in Soilless Tomato Cultivation and Determining Their Effect on Post-Harvest Preservation of the Fruits."

The project aims to develop a sustainable plant activator for tomato cultivation using regional fish processing wastes, with an eventual economic analysis and study of the impact on fruit quality post-harvest.

The project team includes Prof. Dr. Coşkun Gülser, Dr. Esin Hazneci, Research Assistant Aslıhan Çilingir Tütüncü from OMU Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Koray Korkmaz from Ordu University's Fatsa Faculty of Marine Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burhan Öztürk from Ordu University Faculty of Agriculture.

Immediate Approval for Two Projects Led by the Faculty of Agriculture Academics

Additionally, without waiting for the next period, it was decided to accept applications for two projects led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aslıhan Kurt Kızıldoğan and Dr. Kadir Erensoy from the Faculty of Agriculture.

We congratulate the academics and their teams who are the principal investigators of these scientific research projects funded under the TÜBİTAK-1001 framework and wish them continued success.
