Invited to the stage therafter Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal shared their views and evaluations on the performance and activities of the student societies at OMU.

Pointing out the importance of the student societies' activities at the University, Rector Ünal stated their wish to organize such activities more professionally and said, "We had planned some things before. In particular, we put forward a vision for 2023. We want the events to be institutionalized and the work to flow within the rules. One is for the University to complete its digitalization venture enabling us to see your applications and their reports on the system. It's actually system work and what you see is just part of it. You are the most important thing in this strategic goal. Therefore, we want our students to receive a qualified education and to be individuals with high self-confidence, graduate competence, and high professional skills. All of the arrangements here aim to attract our fellow students to the field somehow. We expect all students to gain experience through societies."

“We will not maintain any inactive socities”

Stating that they will end inactive societies, Rector Ünal said, "We expect four activities from each society in an academic year. We will not maintain any inactive societies. We will also strengthen professional societies. We want to create awareness according to the departments' employment areas, realize projects, and organize profession-oriented activities. We will not welcome the participation of individuals outside the university. If there is an event, you will do it. If a congress, symposium, or other event is going to be held, we want you to do it. We are an educational institution. The student needs to go on stage and show themselves. There may be errors or omissions here, but if there will be, nonetheless, let it be here. You need to look back at the mistakes you made today. Otherwise, you may become a person who stays behind in the business life and hides behind the individual."

“The involvement of our societies in the academic movement through events is of great importance for our goals.”

Referring to the work they expect from students, Rector Ünal said, “We attach great importance to profession-oriented symposiums, panels, congresses, and other events that aim to strengthen and spread academic mobility. In this sense, the involvement of our societies in the academic movement through such events is of great importance for our goals. In addition, we aim for our students to publish scientific journals that focus on science and health sciences, social sciences, and art.” emphasizing the contribution of societies to academic activities.

“Our economic support to socieites will be strong”

Underlining that they will support Teknofest and similar student activities, Rector Ünal continued, “We will provide all kinds of support by taking into account the type of event, the contribution of the event, and the social response of the event. In particular, the economic support will be strong, and the laboratory, library, or working environment will come to the fore more effectively. You are young and will have certain desires, such as traveling and having fun. If you stay there, you will regret your future. Of course, these are also necessary, but the most important thing is to improve yourself.”

“A tender was held for a library area with an area of 4 thousand square meters on a 24/7 basis, where the student can meet the daily basic needs.”

Referring to the developments in the Central Library, Rector Ünal spoke about this process: "We care about the library. A tender was held for a library area with an area of 4 thousand square meters on a 24/7 basis, where the student can meet the daily basic needs. We know it won't be over soon. That's why we use the existing library."
