While the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports, held in Samsun by Ondokuz Mayıs University, continues with all its excitement, many firsts continue to be experienced in our country. It was one of the firsts that Sambo, a sport discipline of self-defense against armed and unarmed attackers, was contested for the first time in our country at the FISU World Cup.
Athletes representing our country in the Sambo category have achieved great success by winning 17 medals. Ondokuz Mayıs University contributed to this success by winning a gold medal with Serdem Daharlı in women's 80 kilos and a silver medal with Furkan Güner in men's +98 kilos.
Rector of Ondokuz Mayıs University Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal attended the award ceremony of the Sambo finals and personally presented Serdem Daharlı's award. Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Batuk and Deputy Secretary General Serap Sezer also attended the award ceremony.
On the second day of the ongoing tournament, our athletes achieved the following successes in the Sambo branch:
Serdem Daharlı from Ondokuz Mayıs University won the women's 80 kg gold medal.
Ayşenur Sulun from Kocaeli University won the women's 54 kg bronze medal.
Dilem Bagcuvan from Trakya University won the women's 65 kg bronze medal.
Cigden Bora from Trakya University won the women's 80 kg bronze medal.
Samet Kumtaş from Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University won the men's 64 kg bronze medal.
Onurcan Tatlıcıoğu from Trakya University won the men's 79 kg bronze medal.
Fatih Kosa from İstanbul Cerrahpaşa University won the men's 98 kg bronze medal.
