Murat Özpala, Chief Test Pilot of the HÜRKUŞ aircraft developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ), met with students at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU).
The event, titled “Cross The Limits (CTL’25)”, was organized for the fourth time by the OMU Industrial Engineering Excellence Community and held at the Faculty of Engineering Conference Hall.
The program was attended by OMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, Rector’s Advisor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Begüm Korunur Engiz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Dr. Yıldıray Topçu, along with faculty members and students.
During his talk, Murat Özpala shared his professional experiences in the aviation sector, discussing topics such as the process of becoming a test pilot, flight safety, and career planning in aviation. He advised young people aspiring to enter the field to maintain perseverance, discipline, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz highlighted the importance of the program, stating, “This event is a symbol of pushing boundaries, advancing with courage, and believing in the power of imagination.”
He drew attention to Türkiye’s ongoing defense and aviation projects, noting:
“Projects such as GÖKBEY, HÜRKUŞ, BAYRAKTAR, and the National Combat Aircraft are not only engineering achievements but also strategic milestones representing Türkiye’s independence, self-confidence, and technological sovereignty.”
Prof. Dr. Kurnaz also paid tribute to Vecihi Hürkuş, a pioneer of Turkish aviation:
“We remember with respect and gratitude Vecihi Hürkuş, a great aviation pioneer who designed and flew his own aircraft. Today, the Turkish Air Force’s new-generation training aircraft, HÜRKUŞ, continues to carry his name and vision forward.”
He extended his gratitude to Murat Özpala for his contributions to the advancement of Turkish aviation and for sharing his valuable experiences with OMU students.
At the end of the event, a plaque of appreciation was presented to Murat Özpala in recognition of his contributions. Club Advisor Prof. Dr. Sermin Elevli and former club president Eda Yılmaz also received plaques for their support. The program concluded with a group photo session.
