Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Disabled Students Unit and Samsun Disabled Federation implemented the "Count Me In" Project within the scope of ERASMUS Youth Programs and with the support of the Turkish National Agency.

Within the scope of the project, a total of 30 disabled students from Hungary, Croatia, Lithuania, Romania and Moldova came to OMU to talk about the problems they encountered and their solution proposals for 8 days in various activities.

“We aim for them to express themselves correctly using technological tools.”

Project Coordinator and OMU Disabled Student Unit staff member Ahmet Tayfur Arslan stated that they are working to prepare the necessary academic environment in order to facilitate the education life of students with disabilities and ensure their full participation in the education processes.

Arslan stated that they promoted OMU's work for the disabled within the scope of the project and said "OMU students also support the project as participants. Our aim is to enable disabled individuals to introduce themselves with technological opportunities such as cameras and photography and to increase social awareness about this subject. In addition, to change the attitude towards false perception of disability in the media we aim to help them express themselves correctly by using technological tools.”

In thier presentation, Social Services Unit Director Ali Cengiz Ciğerci also talked about the awards OMU has won in this field and the statistical information of disabled students studying at the University.

Branch Director Ciğerci also gave information about the problems faced by disabled students during the pandemic and suggested solutions, pointing out that they organized job search skills training and 4th Barrier-Free OMU Days for disabled students.

After the 8-day visit, the experiences of the European students will be shared on the YouTube channel of OMU with a video.
