OMU Places Again at the Times Higher Education Rankings

Ondokuz Mayıs University continues its success in the international indexes and rankings conducted by international ranking institutions. In this context, British ranking institution Times Higher Education’s (THE) 2020 World University Rankings have been announced at the World Academic Summit cohosted by the ETH Zurich/Zurich Federal Technology Institute on September 11.

Since the 2016-2017 Academic Year, OMU has been consistently finding itself a place in the 1001+ category with the research & development and project focused works, the intense efforts and manpower allocated to innovativeness, entrepreneurship, quality system, and university – industry cooperation. OMU has repeated this achievement at the THE 2020 World University Rankings with a similar performance from the years 2018 and 2019.

THE 2020 World University Rankings published a ranking of 1,396 institutions from 92 countries, drawing on data points on over 1,800 of the world’s leading research universities and more than 21,000 academic reputation survey responses. The exercise also analyses 12.8 million research publications and 77.4 million citations over five years, based on bibliometric data from Elsevier.  The University of Oxford placed first, The California Institute of Technology placed second, and The University of Cambridge placed third in the 2020 Rankings where Stanford University, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Harvard University, and Yale University placed in the top 10. Turkish Universities could not make it to the top 300 in the 2020 World University Rankings and 2 Turkish Universities are placed in the top 500. A total of 34 Turkish universities were placed in the announced rankings and a total of 23 Turkish universities are ranked alongside OMU in the 1001+ group.

Compared to the previous year, OMU managed to increase the scores it obtained in the 2020 World University Rankings in the education, research, citations, industrial income, and the international outlook criteria.
