Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has signed academic cooperation protocols with two of Uzbekistan’s prominent higher education institutions: the State University of World Languages and the State University of Journalism and Mass Communications. The agreements include plans for joint projects, student and faculty exchanges, and collaborative research in the fields of language education, communication sciences, and journalism.

International Collaboration in Language Education

The protocol signed between OMU and the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages aims to foster cooperation in foreign language education, linguistics, translation, and international communication.

The agreement was signed in Tashkent by Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Rahmonov Sünnetullah Mavlyanovich. As Uzbekistan’s only university specializing in foreign languages and ranked among the top 300 globally in linguistics in the QS World University Rankings 2025, this partnership is expected to strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two countries.

During the discussions, Dr. Ahmet Aycan, Vice Director of OMU’s International Relations Office, facilitated a mutual agreement for joint projects between OMU’s Foreign Languages Student Club and the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages' student associations. The cooperation will focus on knowledge sharing in foreign language instruction, academic studies, and student mobility.

Strategic Collaboration in Media and Communication

OMU also signed a cooperation protocol with the State University of Journalism and Mass Communications, Uzbekistan’s leading media and communication education institution.

The protocol was signed by OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın and Assoc. Prof. Xasanova Gulsanam Xusanovna, Vice Rector for International Relations and Investments. As the only university in Uzbekistan dedicated to journalism and mass communication, the institution trains qualified professionals in fields such as advertising, public relations, and media management.

The meeting included a presentation on OMU’s Faculty of Communication and outlined plans for bilateral student and academic exchange programs and collaborative research initiatives. This partnership aims to strengthen academic ties between Türkiye and Uzbekistan in the fields of media and communication.

Planned Joint Initiatives

Under both protocols, the following collaborative activities are planned for the near future:

OMU aims to expand its international academic network through these partnerships and further strengthen the educational bridge between Türkiye and Uzbekistan.
