Message on the Occasion of May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day

Dear Academics,
Dear Students,
Esteemed Colleagues,
And Our Valued Public,

As we proudly and enthusiastically celebrate the 106th anniversary of May 19, 1919; the day that marked the beginning of the struggle to establish the Republic of Türkiye; I respectfully commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, and all our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for this nation, with deep gratitude and mercy.

May 19 is a cherished date in our history, the day when our nation’s hope for liberation from oppression blossomed, the torch of independence was ignited, and the foundation of a bright future entrusted to youth was laid. As Atatürk emphasized in his words, “Young people, we founded the Republic; you are the ones who will elevate and sustain it.” Our greatest strength on this sacred journey is our dynamic, productive, and modern youth.

On this meaningful day, Ondokuz Mayıs University takes just pride in celebrating its 50th anniversary. Drawing strength from this historic day from which it takes its name, our university remains committed to preparing young people for the future, contributing to the development of our country, and cultivating individuals who embody universal values.

I wish that the May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day brings health, success, and inspiration to our nation, especially to our youth who are the guarantors of our future. I hope this meaningful day further strengthens our unity and solidarity.

Prof. Dr. Fatma AYDIN
