Governor İbrahim Şahin gave a course to the candidates of Agricultural Engineers receiving education at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) within the scope of “Agricultural Entrepreneurship”.

Governor İbrahim Şahin, invited by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Demir, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, shared his experiences on “Agricultural Entrepreneurship” with 250 candidates of Agricultural Engineers” receiving education in 9 departments affiliated to the Faculty of Agriculture.

Governor Şahin began his remarks by saying: “Don’t ignore the fact that you are receiving education in a qualified university and a qualified faculty”, and he stated that serious power concerns would be observed in the issue of nutrition in the future, and that there would be an increasing demand on the employment of dynamic, well-informed, outgoing and creative young agricultural engineers for the quality of the agriculture”.

“Faculty of agriculture is a locomotive faculty””

Governor Şahin drew attention to the importance of the fact that the Faculty of Agriculture, defined as one of the locomotive faculties at OMU, was located between Bafra and Çarşamba Deltas; he emphasized that these two deltas were not used in their full potential of agriculture, and that it was indispensable for young agricultural engineers to work harder and collaboratively in order to make a move in new agricultural fields. Şahin said that power struggles would be observed in the field of nutrition all over the world, and he added that young agricultural engineers should make more contributions to the qualified, eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural production.

Governor İbrahim Şahin mentioned his experiences and information in this field, and he gave advices to the students for planning their futures by saying: “You have to learn English which is the language of the world as well as Russian and Chinese. As young engineers, you have to contribute to the agricultural production by asking ‘what you can do’ for intensive agriculture (agricultural activities performed by means of modern agricultural techniques), greenhouse cultivation and cut flower cultivation in Bafra and Çarşamba deltas. The students of the Faculty of Agriculture receiving education in different departments and fields should give importance to the practical activities as well as the production in order to implement their theoretical information in the real life”.

“Courage is a must in enterprise and initiatives”

Governor Şahin focused on the concept of branding for production, packing and exportation, and he stated: “the value attributed to the products is a gain both for the producers and the country. New technologies must be used in order increase the yield in the production of fruits and vegetables, the producers should tend towards mechanization and automation in agriculture, and all opportunities should be used for agricultural production by enlarging the fields of production. Courage is a must in enterprise and initiatives; now we produce the seeds. New companies are being established for a higher production, here are the new fields…”

Governor Şahin paid great attention to the students in question-answer session, and he stated that he made great efforts to take a postgraduate degree, which he has finally achieved. He also remarked: “people who want to specialize in their field should tend towards postgraduate education. Continuous efforts should be especially made in order to increase the exportations and patents of our country by inventing new machines”.

Governor of Samsun expressed that he gave importance to the agriculture as the member of a family occupied with the agriculture, and he ended his speech as follows: “I must say that I’m really glad to have the second biggest kiwi garden of the world and vegetable greenhouses equipped with new and modern technologies, and I am happy to be in the Faculty of Agriculture”.

At the end of the course, Governor İbrahim Şahin, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Demir, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Çelik shared their opinions about the practices that could be performed for the re-development of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Dean Prof. Dr. Yusuf Demir remarked that he was really pleased that Governor İbrahim Şahin shared his experiences and knowledge about the Agricultural Entrepreneurship with the students of the Faculty of Agriculture in spite of his busy schedule, and he said that they would be glad to be together in new activities.
