OMU Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital Treats Over 20.000 Animals Across the Black Sea Region

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital, located in Samsun and serving as the only public animal hospital in the Black Sea region, provides diagnosis and treatment for all types of animal diseases. In 2024, the hospital, located at OMU Kurupelit Campus, received a total of 20,554 animals from Samsun and other provinces. Among the treated animals, cats were the most commonly brought in.

OMU Animal Hospital Provides Healing to Animals

According to information from the Animal Hospital Chief Physician's Office, from January to August 2024, the hospital treated 20,554 animals, including 13,076 cats, 5,728 dogs, 710 birds, 663 cattle, 85 sheep and goats, 25 horses, 56 exotic animals, and 211 wild animals (194 birds, 14 mammals [jackals, squirrels, and deer], and 3 reptiles). All necessary diagnostic and treatment procedures were performed on these animals.

The treatment of animals brought to the hospital is carried out by faculty members from the relevant departments. Treatments were administered to 6,932 animals in the Department of Internal Medicine, 5,504 in the Department of Surgery, 4,351 in the Emergency Clinic, 2,181 in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1,577 for vaccination and antiparasitic applications, 211 in the Department of Wild Animal Diseases and Ecology, and 9 animals in the Department of Reproduction and Artificial Insemination.

The hospital is equipped with digital radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy units, and fully equipped operating rooms, including two for small animals (pets), one for farm animals, and one for horses.

OMU Veterinary Faculty Animal Hospital has seen an increase in the number of patients with each passing day, receiving patients from Samsun and surrounding cities such as Sinop, Ordu, Trabzon, Rize, Tokat, and Amasya.
