Italian Delegates Visit OMU

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç hosted Italian delegates who were in Samsun for “Erasmus Plus KA1 Mobility for Teaching Staff” and “Erasmus Plus KA2 Mobility for Teaching Staff and Students” projects.

The Italian committee, consisting of the Director Salvatore Marzo and teachers Ida Russo and Severine Mafrica of Aristosseno High School situated in Italy, Taranto, stated that they wished to put into practice with these projects a cultural cooperation programme between Turkey and Italy and emphasized that these projects not only reflected the partnership and friendship of both countries but also will be an example work.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran, Assistant to Rector Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Demirsoy, and Head of the School of Foreign Languages Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nalan Kızıltan also attended the meeting.

“We want to contribute to the cultural mosaic of Turkey”

The Director of the Aristosseno High School Salvatore Marzo said that, through such projects, they aimed for the youngsters, who have a place in both countries futures, to protect their national values and sharing their traditions, transfer them to the future. Marzo stated that Turkey contained in herself many religious and cultures and was a country who contributed to the world peace. He continued “Turkey bears an important place and function in the Mediterranean Basin. Furthermore, cousins who don’t know and are unaware of each other live in this basin. We want these cousins to come together and contribute to Turkey’s rich cultural mosaic.

Director Salvatore Marzo stated that OMU is a modern and very large university and they believed that OMU will continue to develop and grow each passing day.

“OMU’s internationalization aims grow”

Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç remarked that the information and experience sharing with the guests and a protocol to be signed in this parallel amplified the internationalization aims of OMU and said that they will try to quicken such steps.

The Italian delegates who came to Samsun within “Erasmus Plus KA1 Mobility for Teaching Staff” and “Erasmus Plus KA2 Mobility for Teaching Staff and Students” projects will sign a protocol to be prepared within the framework of these projects as soon as possible. The Italian committee also paid a visit to Atakum Municipality to initiate the sister city protocol with Taranto Municipality.
