USA Ankara Embassy Education Attaché Cohen Visited Rector Ünal

United States of America (USA) Ankara Embassy Education Attaché Roger Cohen visited Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal in his office.

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Selim Eren, Embassy Education Programs Coordinator Aycan Yaman and Faculty of Education Department of Foreign Languages ​​Education Vice-Head Assoc. Profç Dr. Ceylan Yangın Ersanlı attended the meeting held at the OMU Rectorate.

Commenting on the visit, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal stated that OMU is a university that attaches importance to international relations underlining that nine foreign languages, primarily English, Arabic and French, are spoken on campus.

“We host students from around 120 countries”

Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal said, “We are hosting more than 5 thousand students from around 120 countries. We have succeeded in being the fifth university contributing the most to internationalization goals in Turkey. Especially recently, internationalization has become one of the primary goals of higher education systems. We also attach great importance on the participation of students and lecturers in international mobility.”

Rector Ünal requested the implementation of an English certificate program 

Rector Ünal also stated that there are vocational English classes besides various units of the University providing 30 percent and 100 percent English education and requested the US Embassy Education Attaché Roger Cohen to prepare and implement a joint in-service certificate program for foreign language instructors.

USA Ankara Embassy Education Attaché Roger Cohen thanked Rector Ünal for their hospitality and stated they will work to further improve mutual relations in the field of education. The meeting ended with the wishes to continue bilateral academic relations and joint projects.

Education Attaché Roger Cohen later visited the Faculty of Education and met with Dean Prof. Dr. Hamza Çalışıcı and his entourage. Cohen held here a workshop with the Department of English Language Teaching faculty and students. Continuing their visits with the School of Foreign Languages, Cohen held a meeting with the English preparatory programme instructors and students.
