Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Medical Faculty Hospital released a video for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and provided important information on breast cancer prevention.

Faculty Member of the Department of Radiation Oncology of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Bilge Gürsel emphasized that breast cancer should be noted in terms of public health in the video she published and made statements about the importance of early diagnosis of cancer and radiotherapy.

“Early diagnosis is vital”

Prof. Dr. Gürsel stated that breast cancer accounts for one-third of cancers seen in women and said, "This is why our awareness is vital. We know that there is a breast cancer screening program for early detection. We recommend that women between the ages of 40 and 69 not delay their mammography screening every two years. In addition, it is important to eat healthily, pay attention to our weight, lead a physically active life, and exercise are the first things we can do to keep breast cancer away from our lives."

Emphasizing that there is a need for radiotherapy to complete breast cancer treatment with fewer adverse effects, Dr. Gürsel said, "This field is an important treatment method in the prevention of cancer by making fewer procedures with technological and scientific developments in cooperation with surgery. We wish our patients not to be afraid of radiotherapy. In the end, breast cancer should be in your awareness, not your life."
