Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Quality Management System is in the Audit Process

The Audit Process started under the coordination of the Certification Department of the Turkish Standards Institute (TSI) for Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) that has begun to use the Quality Management System. The opening meeting was organized at the Senate Hall of OMU Rectorate before the audit process that would last for four days.

The meeting was held with the participation of Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Vedat Ceyhan, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Cengiz, and Fatih Sağdıç, Lead Assessor of TSI, Adnan Bahadır, Provincial Coordinator of TSI Black Sea Region, Erol Kaygı, Director of Certificate for TSI Samsun, Mustafa Tıkansak and Ayşe Akbaba, Assessors of TSI, the deans of the faculties, directors of the schools, administrative units of the university and the heads of departments.

"The most significant issue for us is to perform our duty in the best way"

Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç gave the opening speech of the meeting and thanked all the participants. In his speech, he stated: "we are experiencing a new process that supports the projects we carry out as a requirement of the understanding to do everything in the best way".


Rector Prof. Dr. Bilgiç also made evaluations about when the quality process in higher education started and what has been done so far. “As you know, there was a commission named Higher Education Academic Evaluation and Quality Improvement Commission (YÖDEK) in the Council of Higher Education. The Academic Evaluation Commission (ADEK), which is a reflection of this institution in the universities, was a structure in which the quality processes started to be carried out under one unit.”

"TSI has a leading role in the establishment of the quality management system"

Pointing out that TSI has been an institution dealing with the quality processes of all Turkish institutions and organization since long before the recent quality projects conducted in higher education institutions, Prof. Dr. Sait Bilgiç continued saying “TSI played a leading role in the establishment of the Quality Management System. Today, we wish that Ondokuz Mayıs University experience this process. With this experience, we think that our process will continue on a more solid ground. For this reason, the assessors have willingly participated in and supported this process”.

"Everyone will get the best of this process"

TSI Black Sea Regional Coordinator Adnan Bahadır said that they reviewed the documents when OMU applied to the audit process and appreciated the developed documentation structure. Coordinator Bahadır continued “The Quality Management Process is a tool that facilitates management. I believe the University will benefit from the results of this process and everyone will get the best of it. We wish to share the knowledge and experience of TSI with Ondokuz Mayıs University as a result of this process. I wish that this audit of four days yields high added value and ends up successfully.”

Expressing their satisfaction with the great number of participants, TSI Lead Assessor Fatih Sağdıç stated that the process also increased their expectations and they hope for a successful four days period.

The participants introduced themselves at the end of the opening speeches. Authorities paid visits to various units after the meeting. The quality management audit process will last for four days.
