OMU Places Again at the 1001+ Group at Times Higher Education World University Rankings

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), carried on the tradition of finding a place at the prestigious international university ranking systems through maintaining its academic performance which earned us our first placement in the British ranking organization Times Higher Education’s (THE) World University Rankings in 2018.

THE World University Rankings 2021 have been announced on September 3, Thursday. Since the 2017-2018 Academic Year, OMU has been consistently finding itself a place in the 1001+ category with the research & development and project focused works, the intense efforts and manpower allocated to innovativeness, entrepreneurship, quality system, and university – industry cooperation. OMU has repeated this achievement at the THE 2021 World University Rankings with a similar performance from the years 2018, 2019, and 2020.

THE 2021 World University Rankings published a ranking of over 1,500 institutions across 93 countries and regions, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date. The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. This year’s ranking analysed more than 80 million citations across over 13 million research publications and included survey responses from 22,000 scholars globally.

The University of Oxford placed first for the fifth consecutive year, Stanford University placed second, and Harvard University placed third. California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Cambridge, University of California, Berkeley, Yale University, Princeton University, and University of Chicago placed in the top 10 respectively.

Turkish Universities could not make it to the top 300 in the 2021 World University Rankings and 2 Turkish Universities are placed in the top 500. A total of 44 Turkish universities including one university from Cyprus which is affiliated to the Council of Higher Education were placed in the announced rankings and a total of 8 Turkish universities are ranked among the top 1000.
OMU with its scores at in the education, research, citations, industrial income, and the international outlook criteria succeeded in placing among the 1001+ group at the 2021 World University Rankings together with 33 other Turkish universities.
