OMU Continues Its Decisive Progress in University Rankings

According to University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) data, Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) continued its steady progress in this ranking system by placing higher in this year’s edition.

OMU was ranked 31st in URAP in 2020, 28th in 2021, and 26th in 2022, with an increase of 250 points.

“I think our upward momentum will continue to increase.”

Speaking about the URAP Universities ranking, Rector Unal said the following. “Ondokuz Mayıs University continues its steady rise in URAP, where universities are ranked by evaluation from different perspectives. In two years, we have risen from 31st to 28th and then to 26th. We, Ondokuz Mayıs University, have aimed for total quality. We wanted this quality to increase in education, R&D, service to society, and value creation. We see that we are in an upward trend not only in the URAP ranking but also in other areas. We think that the upward momentum will continue to increase in the coming time, together with the revision we made in education and our vision change in the R&D policy.”

‘250 point increase’

URAP ranks universities on a national and international level every year. An evaluation system is used where the production of articles and the number of citations are dominant, and a total of 15 indicators are used, from doctoral graduates to the number of projects received from TUBITAK. In the URAP 2022-2023 Turkey ranking, Ondokuz Mayıs University received the following results; Article Score 123.5, Citation Score 127.8, Scientific Document Score 132.0, Doctorate Score 136.0, Faculty Member/Student Score 49.09, International Cooperation Score 72.33, Domestic Cooperation Score 52.87, TUBITAK Project Score 110.06, and a total score of 803.9.

OMU increased its score from 552 to 803 in the ranking, which included 183 universities from our country this year, achieved a performance rise of 46%, and rose its ranking by two compared to last year.


In the URAP rankings with different indicators, OMU rose from 24 to 22 in the ranking of state universities, from 19 to 18 in the ranking of universities with medical faculties, and from 27 to 24 in the rankings of universities established before 2000.
