Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and DEKO Industrial Packaging Inc. have signed a cooperation protocol to produce low-cost alternative airbag materials and conduct Research and Development (R&D) activities based on needs.

At the protocol ceremony held in the Senate Hall of the Rectorate, the protocol was signed by OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal and DEKO Industrial Packaging Inc. Chairman Murat Polat.

Rector Ünal: "Türkiye has become a hub, especially in airbags."

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal emphasized the importance of adding value to the region and the country, saying, "Türkiye has become a hub, especially in the field of airbags, and this is an achievement. However, in this process, we must also focus on reducing costs, increasing durability, and localizing the product. In this context, we have started a study with a group of colleagues from the university to source raw materials locally. I hope that as a result of this R&D work, a more qualified product will emerge."

Chairman Polat: " Türkiye has become one of the leading countries in airbag production."

DEKO Industrial Packaging Inc. Chairman Murat Polat stated that they began producing airbags in 2001-2002 and added, "Previously, Türkiye was importing these products, but now it has become one of the leading countries in airbag production. Currently, there is competition between Türkiye and China. Hopefully, in the coming period, we will increase production, boost our exports, and become a global leader. We aim to create more employment and further increase our exports."

The signing ceremony concluded with a commemorative photo.
