The ceremony, where the OMU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences graduates stepped into the profession, started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem.
At the ceremony's opening, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Terzi said, "These special days are of great importance in all our lives. As someone who has completed my entire education life and career steps at OMU, I am happy to speak here. Eight departments in our Faculty; Archaeology, Psychology, Art History, Geography, Sociology, Turkish Language and Literature, History, and Philosophy- are essential for society's and people's welfare. Today, our graduates completed their undergraduate education and received their diplomas from OMU, a remarkable University. We cannot be proud enough of our students graduating on the 100th anniversary of the Republic. They will remember this important date with pride throughout their lives. Undoubtedly, our graduates will demonstrate the theoretical and practical knowledge they receive from their teachers in the field in the best way. I wish you to perform your profession in the best way possible. Society has important expectations from you. As OMU family, we are always with you."
Prof. Dr. Vedat Keleş, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, started his speech by commemorating Hüseyin Demir, a 1st year student of the Department of Psychology who lost his life in the earthquake and said, "Today, we are happy to hold the first graduation ceremony with the new name of our Faculty. We are here to see off our students who will graduate from Archaeology, Geography, Philosophy, Psychology, Art History, Sociology, History and Turkish Language and Literature programs within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Ondokuz Mayıs University. First of all, I would like to thank everyone on behalf of myself and the entire Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences for joining us on this meaningful day and sharing our joy, and I welcome you to our ceremony."
Emphasizing that the OMU family is always with its students, Dean concluded his words as follows:
"Fellow academics, you have not only provided students with knowledge, but also taught them their responsibilities as an individual, sharing and solidarity as part of a team, and their duties to society as a university graduate. Do not forget that you have completed an important chapter in your life story. While writing the other chapters of your life story, everyone will proceed in a different line, and I hope that this line will bring you success and happiness, especially health."
Emre Arslan, the valedictorian of the Faculty, who graduated from the Department of History of Art, said, "We are leaving this distinguished university, where we knocked on the door of education four years ago. My idea is 'Approach life with insatiable curiosity, constantly search for learning.' I started the Department of Art History with these thoughts. In fact, graduation is a new beginning for all of us on the learning path. We wish to be open to knowledge and learning at all times. As our professors taught us, we will always be conscious and sensitive individuals who protect their profession, respect their work and the people they serve, adhere to ethical values, have morals, conscience, look out for the benefit of others without discrimination, and strive for the welfare of society. I congratulate my friends with whom I share the privilege and joy of graduating from Ondokuz Mayıs University and wish them all success in their future lives."
After the speeches, the gifts were presented to the first-ranking student of the Faculty, Emre Arslan, a graduate of the Department of History of Art, the second-ranking student of the Faculty, Selma Kaplan, a graduate of the Department of History, and the third-ranking student of the Faculty Aleyna Küçükyağar, a graduate of Turkish Language Literature, by the protocol members.
