Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Atatürk Congress and Culture Center did the honor to exhibit 60 beautiful paintings and the selected paintings of 8 students ranking in the “China in My Dreams Art Contest – 2016” organized with the cooperation of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Turkey, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turley and International Scientific and Cultural Research Foundation (UBIKAV).
The exhibition was opened with the participation of Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç, Yu Hongyang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Turkey, Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet Kuran, Prof. Halil Kütük, President of the OMU Foundation, Assoc. Prof. Nalan Kızıltan, Director of OMU School of Foreign Languages, Yasemin Kütük, Instructor at the School of Foreign Languages, academicians, and students.
Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç remarked in his inaugural speech: “we see that the mutual cooperation between Turkey and China has been continuing with an effective beginning although there are a continuous need for development. In this sense, we are happy to welcome the Chinese delegation in Samsun. We hope to create new initiatives for the improvement of the relations between Chinese and Turkish societies and countries in addition to Chinese language learning”.
Rector Bilgiç also emphasized that the students painted their image of China that they dreamt of before going there and the real China that they saw when they got there, and he thanked the Chinese delegation and the guests for their participation in the event.
Yu Hongyang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Turkey, stated that they felt honored to participate in the exhibition, and he emphasized that they encouraged the students to introduce Chinese culture.
Ambassador Yu Hongyang said that OMU gave great importance to the development of new horizons in students and that the university was an active part of international communication and cooperation in this sense. He also emphasized the significant role of language in establishing bridges between different cultures, and he expressed that they would send Chinese instructors in order to develop Chinese education at OMU.
Ambassador Hongyang reminded that a contest on Chinese language entitled “Chinese Bridge” would be held at Okan University on May 6, 2017 among Turkish universities, and he invited the students learning Chinese at OMU to participate in this contest.
Subsequent to the speeches, the ribbon of the exhibition was cut by Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç, Ambassador Yu Hongyang, Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet Kuran, Instructor Yasemin Kütük and representatives of the Embassy.
“China in My Dreams” painting contest will be included by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China in the cultural activities of the Ministry, and it will be annually held from now on.
