The "Applied Catalyst Seminar," organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), took place at Samsun Omtel Hotel under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gediz Uğuz, with contributions from Dr. Elif Can Özcan.

Supported by TÜBİTAK-BİDEB 2237 Scientific Education Events Support Program

The event was part of the TÜBİTAK-BİDEB 2237 Scientific Education Events Support Program and featured distinguished academics from some of Türkiye's most reputable universities as instructors. The seminar also hosted 15 postgraduate students from various universities as participants.

Renowned Academics Led the Sessions

On the first day of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Fatma Çiğdem Güldür from Gazi University gave a lecture on "Catalyst Selection and Preparation Techniques for Reactions." This was followed by a presentation from Prof. Dr. Ramazan Yıldırım of Boğaziçi University on "Future Catalyst Trends and Artificial Intelligence Applications in Catalysis."

Hands-on Training in Chemical Engineering Research Laboratories

Practical training sessions were held over two days in the Chemical Engineering Research Laboratories at OMU’s Faculty of Engineering. These sessions included "Catalyst Synthesis Using Microwave Method" led by Dr. Gülce Çakman, and "Fundamental Principles of the Impregnation Method and Catalyst Synthesis Processes" conducted by Dr. Rukan Can Seyfeli.

Day Two Focused on Core Catalyst Principles and Design

On the second day, Prof. Dr. Deniz Üner from Middle East Technical University (METU) lectured on "Fundamental Principles of Catalysts and Catalyst Analysis Using Spectroscopic Methods." Later, Prof. Dr. Alper Uzun from Koç University presented on "Catalyst Design, Optimization, and Performance Evaluation."

Advanced Analytical Techniques Conducted at KİTAM

Following the presentations, staff from OMU’s Karadeniz Advanced Technology Research and Application Center (KİTAM) conducted catalyst characterization through SEM, TGA, and XRD analyses. Dr. Gülce Çakman and Dr. Rukan Can Seyfeli shared the results of these analyses with the participants.

Closing Ceremony with Certificates of Appreciation

The two-day seminar concluded with a ceremony attended by OMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Çetin Kurnaz, who presented certificates of appreciation and gifts to the academic instructors and participation certificates to all attendees. The seminar wrapped up with a commemorative photo session.
