OMU is First in Türkiye and Third in the World at FISU

In the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports, hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), where 760 athletes from 50 countries and 430 universities competed, OMU ranked first in Turkey and third in the world.

Our 51 universities competing on behalf of Turkiye won a total of 134 medals with 36 gold, 34 silver, and 64 bronze medals and carried our country to first place in the ranking of countries in FISU. Ondokuz Mayıs University, which won 4 gold and 2 silver medals, ranked first among the universities from Turkiye and shared third place with Hong Kong Baptist University in the world ranking.

Ondokuz Mayıs University showed that it was well prepared for FISU both as an organization partner and in terms of athlete participation and turned the World Cup into an opportunity with its success in hosting the tournament and the medals OMU athletes won.

Our medal winners

OMU student athletes Berat Acar at +92 kg in men's boxing, Devrim Aydın at 63.5 kg in women's Muay Thai, Tuğbanur Kıvrak at 51 kg in women's Muay Thai, and Serdem Daharlı at 80 kg in women's Sambo became the world champions, whereas Bekir Karaömerlioğlu at 60 kg in men's Muay Thai, and Furkan Güner at Men's 98+ kg in Sambo received the silver medal.

The Rector of Ondokuz Mayıs University, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal, and the senior management congratulated the medal winners and the athletes who competed in the competitions. OMU Rector Ünal and Vice Rector Cengiz Batuk presented the awards to OMU athletes who won medals.

OMU once again showed that it is assertive in the field of sports as well as in other areas with its achievements which is an indicator of being a holistic university operating in many fields and that it works to be successful by approaching each discipline with the same dedication.
