Within the scope of the protocol signed between Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) and Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency (AFAD), search and rescue dogs to be trained were selected.

The event, which took place in the AFAD Education Area in Kurupelit Campus, was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal, Director of AFAD Research Center Assoc. Dr. Yener Aksoy, OMU Search and Rescue Team Trainer and Lecturer Elif Cilavdaroğlu, OMU Search and Rescue Team Dog Trainer Yıldıray Ortahisar and OMU Search and Rescue Team members.

The animals housed in the AFAD Training Area were put to the test by OMU Search and Rescue and AFAD teams. Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal followed with interest the search and rescue dogs that passed the tests. Rector Ünal, who also consulted with trainers and team members, received information about 'Basic Dog Training'.

Drawing attention to the importance of creating disaster awareness during their visit, Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal said, “Disasters are a fact of the geography we live in, so we support awareness studies to raise more conscious individuals in our society. For this reason, we ensured the establishment of a search and rescue team in order for our students to become AFAD volunteers. With these dogs, which will be trained in the future, our team will respond more effectively to possible disasters and take on important tasks in preventing loss of life and property. I wish our volunteers success in their work.”
