While the graduation ceremonies of the 2022-2023 academic year at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) continue with all intensity, the Faculty of Agriculture, one of the oldest and well-established faculties of OMU, graduated 160 students who successfully completed their education in 9 undergraduate departments to the future.
Ondokuz Mayıs University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevim Alışır, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Muharrem Özcan, Vice Deans Prof. Dr. Umut Sami Yamak, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Öztürk, President of Samsun Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers Havva Yurdunuseven Bayzat, academicians and families of graduates witnessed the excitement and happiness of the graduates at the graduation ceremony organized at OMU Life Center.
At the ceremony, which started with the invitation of the faculty graduates to the area, a moment of silence was held in memory of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, and the martyrs, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
Stating that the Faculty has a 47-year history, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Muharrem Özcan said, "We continue education and research activities at undergraduate and graduate level in 9 departments. There are 140 academic staff and 54 administrative staff in our Faculty. The Faculty of Agriculture is one of the leading Faculties of Agriculture in our country, with the competence of its academic staff and national and international projects. This competence is manifested in the activities of our Faculty in the international arena. I wish our Faculty students to know that they are fortunate in this respect and can use this chance well after graduation."
Stating that Agricultural Engineers have essential duties in food and agricultural product production, Prof. Dr. Özcan concluded his speech as follows:
"Young colleagues, the brand value of the University and Faculty you graduated from is decisive in becoming an engineer in demand in working life. I would like to state that you are lucky at this point. However, this brand value will not protect you. In today's world, where scientific data and information are constantly updated, you must constantly update your knowledge. It would be best to create your brand value by equipping yourself with new information in your field. You have this knowledge and talent. With these feelings, I congratulate you on your graduation and wish you success."
Havva Yurdunuseven Bayzat, President of the Samsun Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, who participated in the graduation ceremony, said, "Today you are graduating as Agricultural Engineers from the Faculty of Agriculture, where you started as students. First, I would like to thank the esteemed professors of our Faculty of Agriculture, who have greatly contributed to your education and training. I also sincerely congratulate all our new colleagues graduating today. The profession of Agricultural Engineering is at the center of every stage of agricultural production, which ensures the continuity of human life. In your professional life that you will embark on from today, We firmly believe that you will work with the awareness of protecting our country's soil, water, and air according to the ethical behaviors that apply to engineering practices and must be followed. With these feelings, I wish you success in your professional life."
The valedictorian of the Faculty, Alper Otlu, who is a student of the Department of Plant Protection, wished success to his fellow graduates and said, "We are proud to graduate from Ondokuz Mayıs University, which takes its name from the history of the national struggle. It was a privilege for us to study in our Faculty, which has an important, historical, and wonderful geographical place in Samsun. We, the new Agricultural Engineers, aim to develop our country's agriculture in every aspect with our efforts on the path of agriculture. We believe this path we have chosen to serve our noble and great nation is one of the most correct paths. We will not leave this path throughout our professional life and endeavor to do our part in the agricultural sector."
After the speeches, gifts were presented by the protocol members to the first-ranking student of the Faculty, Alper Otlu, the second-ranking student Dilara Yüksel, and the third-ranking student İbrahim Emil.
At the ceremony, certificates and awards were presented to the graduates who made degrees in their departments by the heads of departments and academicians.
The graduates celebrated their graduation with the cap-throwing ritual at the end of the ceremony.
