Samsun Medical Sector Analyzed in OMU

The results obtained from the project titled “The Analysis of the Innovation, Export, Competitive Advantage and Performances of Companies Active in the  Medical Sector of Samsun” prepared by the academic staff of the Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences were released to the shareholders of the sector and academicians in the Atatürk Congress and Culture Center.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran, Samsun Medical Industry Clustering Association (MEDIKUM) representatives, Middle Black Sea Development Agency representatives, businessmen and academicians attended the event about the project conducted by Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences faculty staff Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kaynak and Assist. Prof. Dr. Miraç Eren.

"It is very important that all shareholders of the medical sector come together"

Speaking at the event Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran mentioned that the medical sector is prominent in Samsun and continued “It is especially important that shareholders of the sector active in the surgical field come together. With this project, which is also supported by our university, our academicians analyzed the medical sector and brought together here today the shareholders to share the results. We have important shareholders of the sector among us from the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Technology Transfer Office, OKA and MEDIKUM. Thus, the shareholders will see the good and missing sides of the sector and find the opportunity to make up for the missing.”

Stating that the project results will be conveyed to MEDIKUM as a report, Vice Rector Kuran thanked those who prepared the project and wished that it would be of benefit to Samsun and Turkey.

After the speech of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran, project coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kaynak and Assist. Prof. Dr. Miraç Eren shared the reason behind the project and its results.

"The very first field study of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in the medical sector"

Underlining that it is the mission of faculties of economics to analyze sectors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kaynak said “It was not possible for us to remain insensitive to the medical sector which is developing especially in Samsun. Besides, we wanted to conduct the most comprehensive field study in the medical field. Our aim is to analyze the current situation for the authorities of the sector.”

Results of the analysis of 38 companies from the medical sector and data related to the export, innovation, activity status, capacities, human resources, employment status and financial resources of companies were shared in the event.

The event ended with a Q&A session where project coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Selahattin Kaynak and Assist. Prof. Dr. Miraç Eren answered the questions of participants.
