Samsun protocol, academic and administrative staff, and students came together at the "Iftar" dinner, which was organized for the second time by the Rectorate of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU).
The "Iftar" dinner welcoming approximately 1300 people at OMU was hosted with the participation of Samsun Governor Osman Kaymak, Deputy Hasan Basri Kurt, Deputy Kemal Zeybek, Artillery Colonel Recep Ali Üstün, Commander of Provincial Garrison, Chief Public Prosecutor Ahmet Yavuz, Kemal Alver, Chairman of Justice Commission, OMU Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç, Vedat Yavuz, Provincial Chief of Police, Senior Colonel Ünsal Ağaoğlu, Provincial Commander of Gendarmerie, Mayor of 19 Mayıs Osman Topaloğlu, Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet Kuran, Vice Rector Prof. Vedat Ceyhan, Vice Rector Prof. Mehmet Ali Cengiz, Secretary-General Assoc. Prof. Menderes Kabadayı, deans of faculties, directors of Vocational Schools, public authorities, academic and administrative staff, students, and members of the press.
Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç gave a speech at the end of the dinner starting with the Quran recitation and prayers, and he expressed his appreciation for being together with his guests in Ramadan, the month of mercy, love, and peace.
Rector Sait Bilgiç pointed out that Ramadan has deeper meanings than understanding the conditions of poor people without eating anything, and he remarked: "this sacred month is a period when we should smarten ourselves up. May Allah enable us to make efforts for correcting our previous mistakes and to smarten ourselves up. I would like to thank you for your participation and to congratulate your Ramadan".
Governor Osman Kaymak wished all the guests a good Ramadan and thanked Rector Prof. Sait Bilgiç for his invitation. Governor Osman Kaymak underlined that OMU was one of the most respected and important universities in Turkey, and he stated: "OMU's integration with Samsun as well as its academic success will pave the way for continuing to progress and making a contribution to the science and the development of our country. The second university to be established in Samsun will also contribute to the development of our country and Samsun by benefiting from the experiences of OMU".
Governor Kaymak remarked that OMU was one of the mostly-preferred universities by foreign students, and that this preference resulted from OMU's academic success and peaceful nature of Samsun city.
