President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, visited Samsun to attend Teknofest Black Sea and to inspect regional universities.
Starting the Samsun program by participating in a series of events hosted by Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), President Özvar met with OMU Senate Members.
OMU's senate members and Rector Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal attended the senate meeting. At the meeting, President Özvar said they aim to communicate more closely with university administrations, academic and administrative staff, and students.
Highlighting the developments at OMU and sharing his impressions of the university at the Senate meeting, the President of YÖK Özvar said, "OMU is one of the well-established higher education institutions of this region with its history reaching nearly half a century. We met with our professors in the OMU Senate Hall with excitement and are holding our meeting with every member of the Senate. We see that OMU is progressing competitively and at a high pace that will pressure research universities. In this respect, I can say that I am delighted. Not only being an academician but also being a student at OMU means great success. OMU stands out in many fields from research to health, from social activities to sports."
President of YÖK Özvar continued, "As in the whole world, the competition among universities positively affects research and development. In addition, university administrations have a great responsibility for academic productivity. We need to positively support the employees in a way that will encourage them more. We need to be research universities with high academic performance. YÖK exists to pave the way for academics and make them more productive. Therefore, I want you to know that your efforts will never go unrewarded. The more we produce, the happier we will be."
After the Chairman of YÖK Özvar, Rector Ünal, in his speech of thanks, said, "Every time we come back after our Ankara visit, we come back loaded with energy and synergy. As the University, we have never failed to meet the demands of the Council of Higher Education. These demands sometimes became a strategic target for OMU, and sometimes it was the elimination of a problem. Therefore, I would like to thank you personally on behalf of all my colleagues. We always welcome you and our esteemed YÖK members to Samsun."
After the speeches, the senate meeting ended with the exchange of ideas.
