Our soldiers who were martyrized at the Battle of Sarıkamış, which took place during World War I, were remembered at the memorial march jointly organized by Samsun Provincial Directorate of Youth Services and Sports, Ladik District Directorate of National Education, Ondokuz Mayıs University International Relations Department, and Samsun Student Loans and Dormitories Institution (KYK).

OMU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Vedat Ceyhan, OMU General Secretary Assoc. Prof. Dr. Menderes Kabadayı, Samsun KYK Regional Manager İsmail Hakkı Kasapoğlu, Samsun International Students Society’s General Secretary Kerami Gün, and a large of OMU students including 300 international students coming from 36 different countries participated in the event.

To commemorate the 102nd year of the Battle, students have walked from Ladik town centre to Akdağ Ski Centre under harsh weather conditions. Locals have appreciated the sentimentality and respect of the students and joined the march with chants. At the end of the march the students had corn soup, which was the provisions for their ancestors during the Battle, in order to feel the harsh conditions of the Battle.

History Teacher Osman Fidan made a speech at the memorial and thanked all the participants. He also underlined the fact that through events like these, they aim to raise a generation who know about their history, and who protect their national and moral values under any condition and era.

Students then walked back to Ladik town centre, and they immortalized this significant day with souvenir photos.
