Ondokuz Mayıs University Ranked in the 2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings

Times Higher Education (THE), one of the most respected ranking institutions in the World, has announced its Impact Rankings 2022.

2022 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings which is the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). THE uses carefully calibrated indicators to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching. Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) is ranked in each of the 15 applied SDG categories while increasing its scores in 13 of them.

The 2022 Impact Rankings is the fourth edition, and the overall ranking includes 1,406 universities from 106 countries/regions. With an overall score of 55.7 out of 100, OMU has been ranked 801 – 1000 out of 1406 institutions at the overall ranking. Ondokuz Mayıs University was also ranked in all of the previous editions.

Sustainable Development Goals Breakdowns

SDG 1 – no poverty measures universities’ research on poverty and their support for poor students and citizens in the local community. OMU has been ranked in the 401-600 segment with a score of 35,1. A total of 769 universities from 89 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 2 – zero hunger measures universities’ research on hunger, their teaching on food sustainability, and their commitment to tackle food waste and address hunger on campus and locally. OMU has been ranked in the 101 - 200 segment with a score of 60,6. A total of 553 universities from 79 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 3 – good health and well-being measures universities’ research on key diseases and conditions, their support for healthcare professions, and the health of students and staff. OMU has been ranked in the 401 - 600 segment with a score of 61,9. A total of 1101 universities from 98 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 4 – quality education measures universities’ contribution to early years and lifelong learning, their pedagogy research and their commitment to inclusive education. OMU has been ranked at the 601 - 800 segment with a score of 46,2. A total of 1180 universities from 106 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 5 – gender equality measures universities’ research on the study of gender equality, their policies on gender equality, and their commitment to recruiting and promoting women. OMU has been ranked in the 601 - 800  segment with a score of 29,5. A total of 938 universities from 101 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 6 – clean water and sanitation measures universities’ research related to water, their water usage and their commitment to ensuring good water management in the wider community. OMU has been ranked in the 401-600 segment with a score of 32,3. A total of 634 universities from 82 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 7 – affordable and clean energy measures universities’ research related to energy, their energy use, and policies, and their commitment to promoting energy efficiency in the wider community. OMU has been ranked in the 401-600  segment with a score of 39,6. A total of 705 universities from 85 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 8 – decent work and economic growth measures universities’ economics research, their employment practices and the share of students taking work placements. OMU has been ranked in the 601-800 segment with a score of 38,7. A total of 849 universities from 95 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 9 – industry, innovation and infrastructure measures universities’ research on industry and innovation, their number of patents and spin-off companies and their research income from industry. OMU has been ranked in the 401-600 segment with a score of 38,4. A total of 785 universities from 86 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 10 – reduced inequalities measures universities’ research on social inequalities, their policies on discrimination and their commitment to recruiting staff and students from under-represented groups. OMU has been ranked in the 601+ segment with a score of 31,9. A total of 796 universities from 93 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 11 – sustainable cities and communities measures universities’ research on sustainability, their role as custodians of arts and heritage and their internal approaches to sustainability. OMU has been ranked in the 401-600 segment with a score of 39,7. A total of 783 universities from 89 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 12 – responsible consumption and production measures universities’ research on responsible consumption and their approach to the sustainable use of resources. OMU has been ranked in the 401-600 segment with a score of 32,1. A total of 604 universities from 83 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 13 – climate action measures universities’ research on climate change, their use of energy and their preparations for dealing with the consequences of climate change. OMU has been ranked in the 601+ segment with a score of 15,3. A total of 674 universities from 89 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 16 – peace, justice and strong institutions measures universities’ research on peace and justice, participation as advisers for government and policies on academic freedom. OMU has been ranked in the 601-800 segment with a score of 33,9. A total of 809 universities from 97 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.

SDG 17 – partnerships for the goals looks at the broader ways in which universities support the SDGs through collaboration with other countries, promotion of best practices and publication of data. OMU has been ranked in the 801-1000 segment with a score of 42,5. A total of 1438 universities from 108 countries/regions have been ranked in this category.
