Students and volunteers from Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) brought joy to children receiving treatment at the Faculty of Medicine Children's Hospital with a special New Year surprise, distributing gifts to young patients.
The "Support for Children with Leukemia Bazaar/Concert" event was organized under the guidance of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İnat. The event received contributions from several student groups, including EMSA (European Medical Students’ Association), the Samsun Pharmacy and Health Academy Society, the Photography Society, IVSA (International Veterinary Students' Association), VFÖT (Veterinary Faculty Student Society), and YET (Wildlife and Exotic Animals Society).
New Year gifts were distributed to children in the General Pediatric Ward, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Ward, and Pediatric Infectious Diseases Ward as part of the event. Patients, their families, university students, volunteers, nurses, and doctors participated in the gift-giving event. Accompanied by a marching band, gifts were brought to the hospital entrance, where a brief concert was held for the hospitalized children.
For two months, students collected letters from children expressing their wishes. Through the bazaar held at the hospital and the support of donors, nearly 100 children's gift bags were filled. Additionally, the student groups and volunteers gathered in the Children’s Hospital Conference Hall to cut a cake and distribute the gifts.
Reflecting on the event’s significance, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İnat remarked, “Our volunteers, who have traditionally organized the 'Support for Children with Leukemia Bazaar/Concert,' are eager to continue this goodwill movement in the coming years. This initiative grows exponentially every year, and it brings us immense joy. Making our hospitalized children happy brings us great satisfaction. I wish all of them a speedy recovery.”
