Within the scope of the Istanbul International Invention Fair (ISIF) 2022, a seminar on "International Application System within the Framework of Patent Cooperation Agreement" was held for the academicians of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) in cooperation with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (Turkish Patent) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Speaking at the seminar's opening, Turkish Patent President Cemil Başpınar stated that OMU, which was in the 12th rank according to the 2021 National Patent Registration Data, rose to the 4th rank in the first eight months of 2022.
Turkish Patent President Cemil Başpınar, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Sevim Alışır, Prof. Dr. Selim Eren, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. İdris Varıcı, Samsun Technopark General Manager Ekrem Altan, academicians, participants from stakeholder organizations, and students attended the seminar held at Atatürk Cultural Center.
Speaking at the seminar's opening, Turkish Patent President Cemil Başpınar stated that OMU, which was in the 12th rank according to the 2021 National Patent Registration Data, rose to the 4th rank in the first eight months of 2022. Cemil Başpınar continued his speech: "Our University has brainstormed for the University, industry, and high school level to address the missing parts of the patent applications. The sustainability of this success is essential. Our University and Rector, Prof. Dr. Yavuz Ünal, are making great efforts in this regard. The main purpose of OMU is to bring a more regional vision, not a local one. Therefore, I believe that our University will not only gain success in terms of patents but also commercial success. I wish this seminar to be successful and effective."
Emphasizing the importance of the seminar in her speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevim Alışır said, "Today's meeting aims to increase international patent applications within the framework of patent cooperation and how this process should be done. We have problems on the international side. We have updated our OMÜ 1924-Coded Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Support Projects. We have opened this door with our 120 thousand lira project."
At the end of the program, Turkish Patent President Cemil Başpınar visited OMU Technology Transfer Office and Samsun Technopark and congratulated the employees for their contribution to the seminar.
