Furkan Büyükgöze, a national badminton player studying at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry, won a silver medal at the 6th World Deaf Badminton Championships held in Brazil.
According to the statement made by the Turkish Sports Federation for the Deaf, OMU's national athlete Furkan Büyükgöze achieved historical success on behalf of Türkiye with his second place in the world in the championship, which was held with the participation of 20 countries in Pará de Minas, Brazil.
Furkan Büyükgöze, who is also an athlete of Samsun Konuşan Eller İşitme Engelliler Spor Kulübü (Speaking Hands Sports Club for the Deaf), faced his South Korean rival Myeongsoo Seo in the final match of the men's singles category at the championship in Brazil. Furkan Büyükgöze, who lost to his opponent in the competition, won the silver medal.
In the statement of the Turkish Sports Federation for the Deaf (TİESF), Federation President Kerim Vural said, "Furkan, who realized a first in the history of badminton for the deaf in our country, has written his name in the history of badminton. I believe that Furkan's successes will continue."
Speaking Hands Sports Club President İlkay Kocabay said they are proud of the athlete who brought this success to Türkiye and Samsun.
The athlete's coaches, Burak Baloğlu and Mazhar Büyükgöze, stated that this degree was the result of hard work. They emphasized that Furkan Büyükgöze's winning the silver medal in the championship was a first in the history of Türkiye and expressed their happiness and pride on behalf of both Samsun and our country.
