Organized by Ondokuz Mayıs University Stem Cell Application and Research Center (KÖKMER), the “I. Basic Stem Cell Techniques Applied Training” was successfully completed.

Making evaluations at the opening, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Başoğlu, who supervises KÖKMER, stated that our University attaches great importance to R&D studies and that KÖKMER has gained significant momentum with its studies, projects, and training activities, and wished the participants success in their studies.

In the organized training, the participants were given an 8-hour theoretical lecture on the biology, types, regenerative potentials, isolation and characterization methods, and ethical elements of stem cells, which have a significant therapeutic and R&D potential in the field of health and basic sciences and have a widespread study in different disciplines in our country and the world. After the training, practical training was given on mononuclear cell isolation from mouse bone marrow and human peripheral blood, mesenchymal stem cell isolation from human adipose tissue by enzymatic and explant methods, and characterization of stem cells with different methods.

In addition, the researchers were given theoretical and practical instructions on how to carry out cell culture studies and experiments under laboratory conditions and analyze the results. The equipment of a stem cell culture laboratory was introduced. Project development and multidisciplinary collaborations in the stem cell field were discussed.

“We are planning to continue the training series in the future.”

Regarding the training, Center Manager Dr. Melek Yüce said, “As the center, we were happy that the participants left the I. Basic Stem Cell Techniques Applied Training, which we organized for the first time, after an intense but equally high-energy, efficient, and enjoyable program. As KÖKMER, we plan to continue the training series in the coming periods with R&D studies to ensure the transfer of scientific data and knowledge by organizing training programs for students and scientists in line with the mission we have undertaken. I would also like to thank our university administration, my colleagues, and sponsor companies for their support in this matter.”

Participation certificates were presented to the participants at the end of the 24-hour practical training, where the participants had the opportunity to practice one-on-one, which resulted in productive outcomes. Center Manager Dr. Melek Yüce, Dr. Esra Albayrak, Research Assistant Çağrı Gümüşkaptan, and Dr. Yaşam Barlak gave the training.
