Turkish rock singer Haluk Levent came to Samsun as part of the May 19 events and has gifted members of OMU family a night to remember with the concert he gave at the OMU Student Centre.
Haluk Levent, who is one of the elite performers of Anatolian Rock and Folk Music, performed a selection of his most famous songs for a crowd of 35.000 at the concert organized to commemorate the 100th year of the Turkish War of Independence. The concert was open to all Samsuners.
Faculty of Fine Arts Modern Music Ensemble and Group Nena were the opening acts of the concert and warmed up the crowd with their performances.
Following the opening acts, Haluk Levent took the stage and performed his beloved songs “Sevenler Ağlarmış”, “Yollarda Bulurum Seni”, “Ankara”, “Elfida”, “Aşkın Mapushane”, “Anlasana”; and Cem Karaca’s unforgettable songs “Islak Islak”, “Deniz Üstü Köpürür” and a few select pieces special for the 19 May.
Even the heavy rain that poured at intervals could not stop the enthusiastic crowd from having a great time. Haluk Levent remained on stage for approximately 2 hours, and finalized his great performance at midnight with the İzmir March which he covered last year.
Haluk Levent met with Rector Prof.Dr. Sait Bilgiç before the concert. Rector Bilgiç thanked Mr. Levent for accepting their invitation and Levent expressed his joy for being in Samsun and being together with OMU students. Rector Bilgiç gifted Levent a present of remembrance. Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kuran and Prof. Dr. Vedat Ceyhan, Secretary General Assoc. Prof. Dr. Menderes Kabadayı, and university authorities also attended the meeting.
