The “38th Intra-University Sports Competitions Award Ceremony” and the “Kite Festival,” organized by the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU), were held at the OMU Life Center.
The award ceremony saw the participation of OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ayşe Pınar Sumer, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Erhan Burak Pancar, academics, administrative staff, and many students.
The sports competitions, held annually to help students and staff maintain their physical and mental well-being and to offer constructive ways to spend their free time, took place in three branches this year: volleyball, basketball, and football.
In her speech at the ceremony, OMU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın emphasized the importance of sports in campus life:
“Sports are a crucial element that fosters solidarity, discipline, perseverance, and healthy living. Through these activities, we strengthen our students’ social skills and showcase the vibrancy of our university. I congratulate all the athletes and the organizing team for their dedication.”

During National Sovereignty and Children’s Day on April 23, Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın symbolically handed over her seat to Ada Rabia Keskin, an OMU Foundation College Primary School student. Eight-year-old Ada had said, “I have a completely different dream of a university!” and wished for a kite festival to be held at the university. Rector Aydın and Ada Rabia Keskin brought this dream to life by flying a kite together during the festival.
