Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz Tanrıverdi Çaycı, a faculty member in the Department of Medical Microbiology at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Faculty of Medicine, has received notable recognition. Her project proposal has been deemed worthy of support by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK).

The project, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yeliz Tanrıverdi Çaycı under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Program, also involves Research Assistant Kübra Hacıeminoğlu Ülker. Titled 'Investigation of Colistin Resistance in Enterobacterales Isolates Using Phenotypic and Genotypic Methods', it is additionally planned as a doctoral thesis project.

The project aims to trial new and rapid antibiotic susceptibility tests developed by the project team to detect colistin sensitivity in multidrug-resistant Enterobacterales isolates quickly. Furthermore, it will investigate the presence of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance genes in these isolates using the polymerase chain reaction method.

The project team's development of new and rapid colistin susceptibility tests is anticipated to impact antimicrobial management significantly. These tests are expected to detect colistin resistance in approximately 4 hours, a critical improvement in terms of time efficiency. This advancement could potentially prevent delays in treatment, marking a significant step forward in medical microbiology.
